According to renowned economist Kwame Pianim, the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) decision not to file charges against former minister of environment, science, technology, and innovation Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng after his arrest has given rise to questions about what he may have done wrong.

The famous cardiac surgeon was subject to an investigation after accepting an invitation from the Office a few weeks prior.

He was invited for his report on the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), which focused on corruption and actions related to it.

Additionally, he was detained for his alleged role in the disappearance of 500 excavators and Symphony Limited, his son’s business, engaging in illicit mining.

He received a GHC 2 million bail right away.

He stated to Alfred Ocansey of TV3 on June 7 that the OSP had not brought any charges against him.

In response to this development, Mr. Kwame Pianim told TV3’s Paa Kwasi Asare that “I will be the first person to take Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to the Police if he is in any way associated to galamsey, encourages galamsey, or prevents it from being eradicated.

In the investigation, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and a man of his stature would have received self-recognition anyplace in the globe, according to what I’m stating.

“I’m not aware of the Special Prosecutor’s information that he would flee the country and that, as a result, he needs to be stopped; he might have removed his passport.

“We ought to be aware of the fees. Is it implied that he belongs to a gang that is supporting galamsey, that he is involved in slander, or that the president requested that the report he gave him be leaked?
