The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) director of communications has denied statements he made, stating that he was a member of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) board when the first phases of building the new head office got underway.

Dr. Forson vehemently refuted these accusations, calling them completely baseless, and urging all well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore them.

The former deputy finance minister said in a press statement issued on Saturday, August 12, that no contracts for the building of a new Bank of Ghana headquarters were awarded while the Mahama administration was in office.

He demanded that Mr. Ahiagbah, the NPP’s director of communications, present any supporting documentation he might have to back up the allegations. According to Forson, “For the records, the Bank of Ghana under the erstwhile Mahama/NDC administration never awarded a contract for the construction of this new Head Office.”

Ahiagbah’s words

Dr. Ato Forson, according to Mr. Ahiagbah’s allegations, was a director of the Bank of Ghana who started planning for the new headquarters. Although the discussions started in the 1990s, Ahiagbah claimed that the actual implementation procedures did not begin until later. He asserted that Forson, a deputy finance minister who served on the Bank’s board during the Mahama-led administration, engaged in talks to buy land close to the Achimota forest.

Although the Bank of Ghana Board ultimately withdrew from the negotiations, Mr. Ahiagbah said that a settlement fee of $1.2 million was paid. Toto Forson was a member of the Bank of Ghana board when they were in power, he highlighted, and the discussion about constructing a new headquarters didn’t begin today but rather in the 1990s.

Dr. Ato Forson said that Ahiagbah’s claim was false and rejected it.
