Maame Esi, better known by her stage name Essi, is a Ghanaian Afrobeats artist who contends that while having good vocals is thought to be a sign of a good musician and an indicator of how well musicians might do with their trade, it in no way defines a good musician.

She said that while many factors come into play, with good vocals serving as a “key instrument,” a successful musical career is not always ensured.

Hear her out when she says, “There’s more to making music than just having a wonderful voice. She stated in an interview with Cape Coast-based Property FM that “the voice is like your key instrument as a musician, and the voice is also a tool.”

She emphasized that while talent was important, artists also needed economic sense to succeed in the cutthroat music industry.

“I’m suggesting that if you have the voice, it’s great; it will benefit you. However, at the end of the day, singing involves more than simply having a good voice; there is also a business aspect to it, according to Essi.

Essi pushed her coworkers to consider contracts, marketing, promotions, and financial management in addition to music-making, emphasizing the need for artists to be well-rounded professionals who can successfully manage the business side of their music careers.

Everything is music, she said, but it depends on how you want to present who you are and the message you want to convey.
