“Strategic Sacrifice: Asamoah Gyan Advocates Missing AFCON for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s Development”

Asamoah Gyan, the all-time top scorer for Ghana, has praised Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for his choice to skip the 2023 AFCON, which would be held in Cote D’Ivoire, citing it as a turning point in his football career.

It is expected that the Foxes will permanently sign Issahaku, who is now on loan with Leicester in the 2023–24 season and was instrumental in their Championship title, in accordance with the agreed obligation to buy fee.

Issahaku’s contract had a €60 million release clause when he moved from Steadfast to Sporting, which was in line with his outstanding performance and winning the best player award at the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite his obvious skill, he found it difficult to establish himself as Sporting’s regular starter under Ruben Amorim.

After the Foxes were demoted to the Championship, Issahaku moved to Leicester in search of increased playing time. Martyn Glover, the head of recruitment under the new Enzo Maresca, suggested the move.

At the club’s end-of-season awards, the Ghanaian winger was voted Leicester City’s Young Player of the Season.

Issahaku won the prize ahead of competitors including Patson Daka of Zambia, after an extremely successful English Championship debut season with The Foxes.
