In a thrilling match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nigeria pulled off a miraculous comeback to defeat Australia, casting doubt on the host team’s chances of making it to the round of 16.

When Emily van Egmond converted Caitlin Foord’s feed into the first goal, Australia took the lead. Nigeria, though, swiftly equalized with Uchenna Kanu’s cool-headed finish. With a header by Osinachi Ohale, Nigeria took the lead with a score of 2-1.

As a result, Nigeria is now tied for first place in Group B with Canada on four points. Australia, on the other side, finds themselves one point back of both groups going into Monday’s sectional championship games.

Australia will play Canada in a critical matchup in Melbourne; a win would guarantee them a place in the knockout rounds. At the same time, in Brisbane, Nigeria will face the already eliminated Republic of Ireland.
