Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte was found guilty of contempt of court based on his own guilty plea, and the Supreme Court on Tuesday warned and released him after he apologized and withdrew the offensive language.

The judge chose to release the defendant after having mercy on him, considering his remorse and his attorney’s mitigation arguments.

However, the court cautioned him to behave well because so many people look up to him.

In light of the Supreme Court’s conviction of Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte for contempt of court for embarrassing the court, he has been dismissed.

According to sources from the Supreme Court, Prof. Kpessa-Whyte initially pleaded not guilty to the allegation of scandalizing the court but later amended it to guilty with explanation and then eventually guilty.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte was found guilty by a jury of five judges, led by Justice Mariama Owusu, based on his own guilty plea.

After hearing a submission of mitigation from his attorney, Dr. Justice Srem Sai, the court adjourned to its chambers to determine his fate.

His attorney begged the judge to show his client some leniency, claiming that he had apologized and recant the said derogatory statements.
