Cody Gakpo’s transfer to Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven has been officially announced.

Gakpo’s contract, which is for five and a half years, is said to be for £37 million, with the possibility of add-ons raising the value to £45 million. Liverpool

The forward, who will be able to play as of January 1, 2023, arrived in England on Tuesday for a physical.

On January 2, he might play his first Premier League game for Liverpool against Brentford.

“I feel really good, I’m really excited to be here,” he told the club website.

“I’m looking forward to start training and start playing for this amazing club. I think this is a great club for me to come in and try to show what I can [do] and try to help the team to achieve more beautiful moments that they already did in the past years.

“I think for me personally it’s also good to develop here and there’s a lot of great players here [who] I can learn a lot of things from.”

Gakpo boasts an impressive record in front of goal, scoring 55 goals in 159 games for PSV, and providing a further 50 assists.

With nine goals and 12 assists in 14 games this season, he is now leading the Eredivisie scoring charts.

Gakpo has contributed to 35 goals in 31 appearances this season of both domestic and international football.

In June 2021, at the age of 21, he made his Netherlands debut. Since then, in 14 appearances, he has scored six goals.

He scored in each of his three group games against Senegal, Ecuador, and the hosts themselves while competing in the World Cup in Qatar, where he scored three of those goals.

The 23-year-old was a highly sought-after prospect after making an impression for both PSV and the Dutch national team. Real Madrid and Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on him.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, was asked about the team’s pursuit of Gakpo after the team’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

He argued, “I don’t comment about specific incidents. “With so many games coming up, we are seeking for a striker.

“You need numbers in the squad if you want to keep us in all the leagues we play in.”

Given the injuries to Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Roberto Firmino, Gakpo will aid strengthen Liverpool’s forward line.

Jota is anticipated to be sidelined until February due to a calf problem, while Diaz might be sidelined until March as a result of knee surgery.

Prior to traveling to Brentford on Monday, where Gakpo will be able to make his debut, Liverpool will play host to Leicester City on Friday.
