GFA raises the 2023–2024 Ghana Premier League’s prize money.
Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced plans to increase the prize money for the Ghana Premier League champions in the forthcoming league season of 2023-2024.
This declaration was given on August 29, 2023, at the Eastern Premier Hotel in Koforidua, Eastern Region, during the opening of the new league campaign.
The previous season, Medeama Sporting Club won the title and took home a prize of GH $300,000; nevertheless, this sum sparked outrage in the football world. Many people thought that this amount was insufficient and unrepresentative of Ghana’s top team. GFA
In light of this, Mr. Okraku’s most recent announcement suggests that the league champion in 2023/24 will also get a trophy, 40 medals, and an extra award of GH500,000.
The winning team will receive GH200,000, while the second-and third-place teams will each receive GH100,000. Mr. Okraku emphasized that this season’s changes will also include monetary awards for the clubs finishing in fourth through tenth place.
His goal is to heighten the league’s spirit of competition in the upcoming season.
“The Ghana Football Association will reward from the first to the 10th place in the 2023/24 betPawa Premier League,” he stated, “to increase the competitiveness of the league.”
In previous occurrences, Accra Hearts of Oak won GH 250,000 as compensation for their triumph in the 2020–21 campaign. The same amount was then awarded to Kumasi Asante Kotoko for finishing first the following season.
A slight improvement was shown in the previous campaign when Medeama SC won the championship and received a prize of GH300,000.
