James Gyakye Quayson has been sworn in as the representative for the Central Region’s Assin North seat.

On Tuesday morning, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, administered the oaths of allegiance and membership.

After the Supreme Court declared the 2020 Assin North Parliamentary election invalid on the grounds that Quayson was unable to run since he was a dual citizen at the time he submitted his petition, Quayson won a by-election last week.

On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, he defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the by-election to win back the seat.

Charles Opoku received 42.15 percent of the votes, whereas he received 17,245 votes or 57.56%.

White was the color of choice for minority lawmakers as a symbol of success.

Numerous members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former president John Dramani Mahama, were in attendance in parliament.
