The management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has taken decisive action against 16 of its employees in an effort to enforce discipline and raise patient care standards.

These people have received a variety of penalties after being found guilty of various offenses, including dismissals, warnings, and unpaid suspensions.

These offenses include instances of extortion by some of the involved staff, according to Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the hospital’s CEO. He made these announcements at the Kumasi mid-year performance assessment conference in 2023, stressing the hospital’s dedication to upholding discipline among its staff.

Prof. Addai-Mensah emphasized the hospital’s commitment to placing patient care first and maintaining the honesty of its business practices.

“One thing that we haven’t played around with is discipline in the hospital, and about sixteen staff members have received sanctions for various infractions,” he said. Extortion has been mentioned a few times, and numerous other crimes have also been documented. The quality assurance unit has been strengthened, and it is largely in charge of appointing committees to look into problems like this and make recommendations to management, which are then passed on to the disciplinary committee, which decides what punishments should be administered to offenders.

Additionally, Prof. Addai-Mensah presented plans for remodeling the outdated Gee Block on the hospital grounds. This specific building, built in 1954, has been in use for almost 70 years without undergoing significant renovations. Because Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital receives recommendations from all throughout the nation, questions have been raised regarding how well-maintained these venerable structures are.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is spearheading a fundraising effort to renovate these facilities as a charitable act.

The initiative, according to Professor Addai-Mensah, will greatly improve healthcare services in the area.
