According to the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS) 2022, there is a low rate of condom use in the nation among individuals who have many sexual partners.

According to the survey, men between the ages of 15 and 24 who reported having two or more sexual partners made up 24.7% of the sample, compared to 17.1% of women in the same age group. In this sample, 13.1% of the participants were women, and 28.2 percent of the men had sex with someone who was neither their spouse nor their parent’s housemate.

35% of men and 23% of women who were interviewed for this age group (15–49) reported having sex with a non-cohabiting partner who was not their wife.

Eleven percent of the group that used a condom for intercourse with a non-cohabiting partner were women, while 28 percent were males.

The results were revealed by acting Ghana Statistical Service Director of Demography Godwin Odei Gyebi last Tuesday during the second dissemination of the 2022 GDHS report on HIV/AIDS and health insurance in Accra. Based on the data, he suggested that if the nation wished to lower HIV and other STDs, a comprehensive campaign on HIV and AIDS prevention was the best course of action.

Setting
18,540 homes from 261 districts and all 16 regions of the nation were included in the survey.

Interviews for the study were done with 17,933 families, 15,014 women and 7,044 men, ages 15 to 49.

In addition, 4,935 children ages 0-5, had their anthropometric measurements taken, and children aged 6-59 months had their malaria tested using microscopy and the Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).

As a result, the survey covered a wide range of topics, such as household interviews, evaluations of individual women’s reproductive experiences and decisions, including attitudes towards husband beating, sexual activity, and men within particular age ranges, as well as health assessments and testing for kids of various ages.
