Kurt Okraku is expected to be re-elected as GFA President today.
At today’s Extraordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which is taking place at the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku is expected to be approved as the association’s President in an uncontested race. Kurt Okraku
Since Mr. George Afriyie’s disqualification was upheld by the Appeals Committee, Mr. Simeon-Okraku, the current GFA President, is running unopposed.
In the GFA presidential election in October 2019, Mr. Simeon-Okraku defeated Afriyie to win the position for the first time. He succeeded Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, whose resignation after a protracted tenure was triggered by an exposé of corruption by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Kurt Okraku
The Congress will choose Executives to manage GFA affairs for the following four years, beginning at 9 a.m.
In addition to the presidential position, delegates will choose five representatives for the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and three representatives for the Division One League (DOL). Kurt Okraku
In the running for the DOL positions are five persons, namely: Mr. Mark Addo, Mr. Samuel Addo Anim, Mr. Eugene Nobel Nii Amon Noel, Mr. Gideon Fosu, and Mr. Alexander Ababi.
Ten persons, namely Mr. Kingsley Osei Bonsu, Nana Sarfo Oduro, Mr. Frederick Acheampong, Mr. Anthony Kwesi Aubynn, Mr. Ransford Anertey Abbey, Mr. Onyina Asenso, Mr. Edmund Kwabena Ackah, Mr. James Kwesi Appiah, Mr. Elloeny Amande, and Mr. Raphael Yawiah Gyambrah, are also contesting the five GPL roles.
Dr. Gifty Afia Oware-Mensah is running uncontested for the Women’s Football representative on the Executive Council.
Ten regions will participate in the election process, each of which will have regional delegates choose their own chairmen. Two will then be chosen to sit on the Executive Council. Kurt Okraku
For the positions of chairmen for the Greater Accra, Western, Eastern, and Northern regions, respectively, Mr. Mahamadu Abu-Hassan, Mr. Simon Ehomah, Mr. Linford Boadu Asamoah, and Mr. Samuel Aboabire are running unopposed. The Chairmen for the Volta, Upper West, and Ashanti regions, Mr. Daniel Agbogah, Mr. Yahaya Sadugu Daudi, and Mr. Agyemang Osei Tutu, are also running unopposed.
Robert Otieku Duncan and Abdul Hayye Yartey are competing for the position of Central FA Chairman. Dickson Kyere-Duah, Dr. Charles Osei Antoh, and Meshack Asante Ameyaw are running for the position of Brong Ahafo FA Chairman. Salifu Shaibu Zida and Abel Alonort Asoogo are vying for the position of Upper East Region FA Chairman.
Along with other notable observers from the world football governing body, including FIFA Development Program Coordinator, Ms. Silmara Sousa, and FIFA Member Associations Africa representative, Mr. Ahmed Harraz, Mr. Gelson Fernandes, Director of Member Associations for Africa at FIFA, is anticipated to be present in Tamale. In advance of today’s conference, the trio left Accra on Tuesday and traveled to Tamale early on Wednesday.
