The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has stated his wish to re-sign Lionel Messi this summer.

Laporta asserted that Barcelona is Messi’s “home” and that the team can compete with anyone to sign the 35-year-old.

Messi had reportedly been connected to Saudi Arabia in the past, but Laporta thinks the club’s legacy, enduring sentiments, and 400 million global supporters make it an alluring opportunity for the star.

After 21 years with Barcelona, Messi left the club two years ago. Since then, he has had trouble adjusting to life in France; most recently, he was jeered by spectators during PSG’s 5-0 victory against Ajaccio.

Laporta, who has already had a “affectionate conversation” with Messi, yet thinks that Messi still has a lot to give.

“We have to wait until the end of the season, until it is over, and then we can talk more calmly about this,” Laporta said, referring to the player from Paris St-Germain. Barca is Barca, and it is home, with all due respect to Saudi Arabia.
