‘New Year’ accident kills 4 in Takoradi

After being involved in an accident at Takoradi in the Western Region, four people have been declared dead.

Two buses were involved in the collision, which occurred early on January 1, 2023.

A sprinter bus with the registration number LB-B11992 registered in the Republic of Liberia and a bus for the Assemblies of God with the registration number GT 4481-22.

The Assemblies of God bus had some church members onboard, from Accra heading towards Asankragwa whilst the sprinter was moving in the opposite direction.

An eyewitness claimed that the sprinter had been travelling at top speed when it struck the bus at Kojokrom’s New Apostolic Junction while it was negotiating a curve and it caused the accident.

“The yellow bus had loaded church members who went for camp meeting at Accra. Whilst returning to Asankragwa, it collided with the sprinter vehicle. The driver is the Assemblies of God bus was unstable when I arrived here”, Kofi Amoah, an eyewitness indicated.

The Liberian sprinter bus contained four male passengers, four of whom have been confirmed dead, and many more are in severe condition.

Minor injuries were reported by passengers on the Ghanaian bus, who were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Ghana National Fire Service and Police were required to intervene to help at the accident scene.
