The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has presented the following individuals for criminal proceedings in Ghanaian courts for corruption and corruption-related offenses since August 2021.
These are not the same as the OSP’s interim applications, in which the courts have banned the agency from making arrests, conducting investigations, or taking the assets of persons identified as suspects and respondents.
Alexander Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka, Adjenim Boateng Adjei, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Sumaila Abdul Rahman, and three others are among those involved. OSP
The Republic v. Alexander Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka
The prosecution has finished its case in the trial of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee for Juaben in the Ashanti Region for corruption in a public election.
Alexander Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka has been accused of 26 charges of public election corruption.
On January 23, 2024, the court will rule on the defense’s “no case” motion.
The Republic v. Sumaila Abdul Rahman and three others
The prosecution has concluded its case in the Northern Development Authority corruption scandal, in which the former Chief Executive Officer, his two deputies, and a private contractor face 11 charges in connection with a bloated contract for a poverty eradication program worth more than GH5 million cedis.
The prosecution called a total of ten witnesses.
The defense must file a no case to answer submission by January 4, 2024.
The prosecution’s response is due by January 25, 2024.
The case has been rescheduled for February 12, 2024.
The Republic v. Adjenim Boateng Adjei
The former Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) and his brother-in-law are on trial at Accra’s High Court’s Criminal Division.
Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been charged with multiple counts of using public office for profit and influencing the procurement process to gain an unfair advantage in the award of public contracts, while his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, has been charged with one (1) count of using public office for profit. The case has been rescheduled until March 4, 2024, to allow for the continuation of cross-examination of the first prosecution witness.
The Republic v. Cecilia Abena Dapaah
Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has refused to report her property and income as required by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
The accused, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, is yet to enter a plea.
The docket has not yet been assigned to a new judge.
The case has been rescheduled until December 22, 2023.
