The Greater Accra Region’s Ga West Municipality police have launched a manhunt for four alleged thieves in connection with the murder of a police officer in Ablekuma.

Yesterday in broad daylight, the police officer was slain by the alleged criminals.

The policeman, identified as Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah by a source in the Ghana Police Service, is claimed to have been shot numerous times during a robbery attempt on suspected car occupants at a fuel station in Ablekuma.

The bullion van reportedly followed the alleged criminals as it headed to refuel at the gas station where the gunfight took place.

The police officer was shot at close range while performing security duties in the passenger seat in front of the car.

After the four robbers fled and word of the crime spread, the incident attracted some locals, drivers of both commercial and private vehicles, and traders.

Statement

The police warned the robbers responsible for the policeman’s murder to come forward in a statement.

According to a police statement, “the police are on a manhunt to arrest a gang of four robbers who attacked a bullion van at Ablekuma Fanmilk, a suburb of Accra, and shot the police escort who sadly passed away.”

The statement said, “Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of our deceased colleague in particular and with all members of the Police Service in general.”

The public was also given assurances by the police that the robbers will be apprehended and brought to justice.

Brief profile

According to the individual who spoke with the Rapid News, Lance Corporal Amoah was assigned to the Ghana Police Service’s National Protection Unit (NPU) command center.

In 2017, he graduated from the Pwalugu Police Training School.

The insider also revealed that L/Cpl Amoah married last year and had a child.
