The deaths of a couple and their only male child in the space of three days have shocked the Ashanti region’s Ejura township.

Some relatives believe Salo Salamatu and her husband, Illiasu Akurugu, died as a result of the illness and subsequent death of their only son, Mohammed Eliasu Awedam, also known as Doe.

After learning of her son’s poor health, the 78-year-old mother died on December 30, 2022. On January 2, the 38-year-old Doe died, and his father, 83, died the next day after learning of his son’s death.

The parents had left their Ejura home for their native Burkina Faso when word of their sick child reached them.

Madam Salo, who was said to have no history of high blood pressure, began experiencing it until her health deteriorated.

Haruna Mumuni, also known as Plus 2, Mohammed’s nephew, told myjoyonline.com that his uncle died on Monday, January 2, 2023, at his Ejura home.

As the family prepared to break the news of his son’s death, a phone call arrived informing them of Mr Akurugu’s death.

Mohammed, the son, had abandoned his carpentry trade and gone into farming. However, he became ill and sought treatment at Ejura Government Hospital and St. Luke Hospital in Kasei, but he never recovered.

The family claims that his parents died as a result of his sudden deterioration in health.

Mohammed was survived by his wife and four children.

Meanwhile, some friends of Illiasu, who has yet to be buried, have taken to social media to express their shock at his and his parents’ deaths.
