Godwin Attram, the Black Meteors’ assistant coach, has revealed that the technical team intends to invite Black Stars athletes who are eligible for the forthcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition.

In his squad for the final round of qualifying matches against Algeria, Ibrahim Tanko selected eight players with foreign residences, including Fatawu Issahaku, Ibrahim Danlad, and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, all of whom played for Ghana as members of the Black Stars squad that competed at the 2022 World Cup.

Only local players made up Tanko’s original 22-man team, and he’s likely to reveal more names in the coming days.

Attram, who assists Tanko, made a suggestion that they won’t pass up on any eligible Black Stars players, but he hoped they would heed the technical team’s counsel in order to aid the squad in achieving their goal.

“The technical team have discussed these things and we feel that those who are under the age and are capable of helping the country, why not?

“They must join the Black Meteors as well, a player like Kamaldeen Sulemana and others, there is a chance for them to join the team, and we really hope that they will join and make an impact to support the country.

“The country needs this tournament to qualify for France, it is very important, we haven’t been able to qualify for the tournament and it’s bad for a country like  Ghana.

“So we hope that calling them to come and join, they will give their hearts out, play very well, listen to the technical team, and make something good out of it because it is good to be an Olympian.” Godwin Attram told Radio Gold.

Ghana will trade tackles with Morocco, Congo, and Guinea in Group A of the tournament which serves as a qualification grounds for the next Olympic Games slated for 2024 in Paris.

Ghana are aiming to return to global competition after failing to show up since 2004.
