2 Airport authorities owe GMet $10 million, according to the Auditor General

For the period from October 2019 to June 2021, two airport administrations owe the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) US$10 million in airport passenger tax, landing and en-route fees.

According to Section 12 of the Ghana Meteorological Agency Act, 2019 (Act 1002) as amended, the agency will be paid 10% of all landing fees, 10% of overflight fees, and 5% of airport taxes collected by aerodrome operations as compensation for the agency’s performance of its duties. Auditor

A review of the agency’s records indicated that, in violation of the Act, GCAA and GACL owed GMet a combined sum of US$10,044,380 in relation to airport passenger tax, landing, and en-route costs for the time period from October 2019 to June 2021.

The 2022 audit of public accounts of ministries, departments, and agencies included the debt owed to GMet.

The Auditor General advised the Chief Director to see to it that the Acting Director quickly collects the money owed to the Ghana Airport Company Limited and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
