President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially opened the newly built structure on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, which will house the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry going forward.

The president stated that Squadron Leader Melody Danquah, a trailblazing woman who made history as the first female military pilot in sub-Saharan Africa in the 1960s, is honored by “this impressive structure,” which houses both the University of Ghana Medical School and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Her tale serves as motivation for people with mental illnesses as well as those who persevere, prosper, and realize their full potential in life, according to Mr. Akufo-Addo.

The Melody has a conference room, a lecture hall for students, faculty offices for research, a calm waiting area that is helpful for teaching and learning, chic consulting rooms, therapy rooms, a treatment room, a pharmacy, and an observation room.

This structure stands in for a wonderful collaboration between the public and commercial sectors.

It demonstrates what can be accomplished when specialists collaborate with the business sector and the latter awakens to its duties.

“And this partnership then deepens Government’s commitment to advancing mental healthcare in Ghana,” Mr. Akufo-Addo stated.
