Police Inspector formally charged with murder after killing girlfriend
A police inspector has been ordered to remain in detention by the Asokore Mampong District Court in the Ashanti Region due to allegations that he killed his lover Victoria Dapaah.
On April 20, 2023, close to her home in Adum, Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, a 26-year-old woman, was allegedly murdered by Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, her boyfriend.
The offender agreed to the incident during his initial court appearance but insisted that he had no malicious intent toward his girlfriend.
Following the Office of the Attorney General’s recommendation, the suspect was formally charged with murder at the subsequent court proceeding.
The head of legal and prosecutions in the Ashanti Region, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, gave the deceased’s family members present at today’s court proceedings the assurance that the police administration is devoted to seeing that justice is done. The Office of the Attorney General’s advice was taken into consideration, and the committal procedures would start in the following hearing.
ACP Kofi Blagodzi spoke to the media after the court sessions, stressing the complexity of the situation and reiterating the police’s genuine interest in the case and commitment to upholding justice.
He continued by saying that both the police force and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) were committed to finding a solution to this issue. Everyone was given the assurance that the case will be investigated thoroughly by ACP Kofi.
