Speaker of Parliament denies Predicting 2024 election outcome

The 2024 presidential elections will not be between former President John Mahama and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, according to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

Bagbin’s denial follows a media story that said he made the forecast while visiting the Yagbonwura in Damongo as part of the festivities for Ghana’s uninterrupted 30 years of parliamentary democracy.

Bagbin claimed in a statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the Parliament that he had not predicted the results of the elections in 2024.

The statement read, “The Speaker made reference to the two politicians present at the said event, but it was not a prediction exercise.” Speaker of Parliament

He said that the people of northern Ghana should be proud of the fact that they will be well represented at the top of Ghana’s political structure, which is the context in which he was speaking.

Bagbin also reaffirmed his intention to cooperate with all lawmakers, despite of their party leanings, in order to advance the interests of all Ghanaians.

We are one people with a common future, the Rt. Hon. Speaker said, notwithstanding our political differences. Therefore, regardless of our political differences, our shared objective should be to work for the welfare of all Ghanaians.

The statement continued by advising the media to exercise caution when reporting and refrain from sensationalizing news that can potentially stoke national division.
