The 15th BRICS Summit is attended by President Akufo-Addo in South Africa.
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana to travel to South Africa to attend the 15th BRICS Summit at the request of Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of that country.
The leaders of Brazil, India, China, and South Africa will be present at the summit, which runs from August 22 to August 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the summit, but Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister, will speak on behalf of the Russian Federation.
The international economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa collectively make up the BRICS, which was created in 2010 after South Africa joined the BRIC group. Even while the BRICS Summit is a gathering of heads of state and government, it is also accompanied by a robust economic program that ends with the BRICS Economic Forum.
At the conference, President Akufo-Addo is expected to make a statement. Along with representatives from the presidency and the foreign ministry, he was accompanied by Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
The Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall act in the President’s absence in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution. The Vice President will return to Ghana on Friday, August 25, 2023.
